Hmm, I wonder what puts that NB in D-Prepared? I dont quite understand how Miatas go from ES to STR to CSP to DP (in order from less mods to more mods). I would have thought there would be ES - STR - ESP - EP to make a natural progression of things. SCCA classing never really makes sense to me.
Although I suppose the Camaro makes even less sense. Such a Classic American Muscle car right there lol.

Stripped interior and R compound tires will do it! As far as EP vs DP, it doesn’t always make sense.
CAM-C makes sense though... Classic American Muscle - Contemporary. I get why those guys want to run big, American, RWD muscle cars in their own classes. Plus, most of the CAM guys are hilariously goofy.
Side note - that guy clipped a cone and dented the door of his Camaro. A couple hundred bucks in PDR will take it out, but it was a wrinkly little dent. I also broke my car on a cone (but more on that later!)

I couldnt imagine a cone actually doing damage to my car, I have brutally murdered some cones without even a mark. And you are definitely right, I love the guys that run in CAM I just always find it funny to say “Classic” with a car that is made in this decade.
Ahh yes, the stripped interior would do it. Do you have anything else that keeps out from being in SP? There really isnt a whole lot of interior in a Miata to save the weight on lol. I run Hoosiers in CSP and it seems like a pretty fun class to run so far.

For right now, basically just the interior changes. I don’t have a center console or carpet, and I’m going to be removing the door cards and some more plastic trim pretty soon. New seats and new harnesses are in the works for this winter, followed eventually by a cage to replace the bolt-in rollbar.
It’s a track car, I really only took it to autocross to shake it down and see how it could handle me being a little aggressive. It did pretty well, but the goal is for it to see more track days than autocross days next year. We’ll see! It’ll be on street tires (probably Z2*) next year so I can get a little more life out of them.

Neato, I probably want to turn my ‘01 into a race car in a similar fashion some day. I definitely want to keep the car forever but with the slowly rusting body and questionable paint and higher mileage, I think it will lead a much better life as a dedicated track day car. Do you have any plans for power mods? My only concern is the car being too slow to be a good track car instead of just my current autox.

Slow cars can be great track cars! I actually half-regretted buying this one, when I could have bought a Fit for the new Spec Fit events at Gridlife. That sounds like a riot.
If I ever get bored of it or blow it up, I’ll consider a K-Swap or something more silly, but it probably won’t happen since the little 1.8s are so cheap to replace. Go drive slow cars fast. :)
